What does a tech do at each stop?
For techs
A stop goes in one order: get there, Start service, fill in what you did, Finish service, then send the report. Everything saves on your phone as you go (no signal?).
- On Today, the Next up card shows your next stop. Tap Navigate to open directions, or Open the stop. The Week tab shows the next six days.
- On a stop, use the arrows at the top right to go to the stop before or after, or swipe left or right.
- Directions and Call are on the stop. Before you start, Text: on my way opens a text on your own phone with the words already written. Edit it, then send. Barrierline does not text the customer for the office. If the office has put the customer’s number on its do-not-text list, the Text tile is not there, the stop says Do not text this customer, and you can still call. Your phone uses the list it already has, even out of signal; a change the office just made reaches your phone the next time it updates (Update now on Me).
- Tap Start service. The bar at the top starts counting your time on site. If the office wrote a job sheet for this service, The job shows what to treat, where and with what. Start fills those in when the record is still empty. You type how much you used.
- Pick Target pests and Areas treated.
- Under Products applied, tap Add products, tick them, and tap the button at the bottom (Add 2 products, for two). A product already on the stop shows ticked, with its amount (or Amount needed) and On this stop. You can’t add it twice. Tap it to open its amount. Type the Amount for each. If the unit is gal mix, also type the Mix rate as a percent, like 0.06%. If you applied nothing, turn on Inspection only, nothing applied.
- Tap Finish service. Under the button it says what is left, like “1 thing missing, 4 steps not ticked” (while the keyboard is up, a line says “2 things left: pests, amounts”; tap it to jump there). Tap Finish service with something the state requires missing, and the phone takes you to it. The stop will not finish while that is missing. If it is your license number, a box says the office adds it.
When a customer refuses a re-treatment or a post-construction treatment, Arizona makes your company keep proof. After you start the stop, scroll to Customer refusal and tap Customer said no. Pick what they refused, tick what you gave them to read (the label, the rule sheet, a written notice), and write what they said in the note. Tap Get their signature, check their name, and have them sign with a finger. If they won’t sign, tap They won’t sign and write why in the note. Photo of the notice takes a picture for the stop. It saves on your phone and reaches the office when you have signal. Change on a signed refusal lets you fix what they refused, what you gave them or the note, and Save changes keeps their signature; Sign again asks for a new one. Take it off removes it after a few seconds, and Undo brings it back first. After you complete the stop it shows, but you can’t change it: reopen the stop, or ask the office to correct it.
On a termite treatment, Treatment proposal keeps what the proposal said: how it will be treated, which structure, the proposal no., and who got a copy and on what day. Use the state’s own form for the proposal itself, with a copy to whoever asked for it and one to your qualifying party. There is no price. It goes to the office once you have picked how it will be treated and, if you gave a copy, the day. If it is not whole when you tap Finish service, the phone says so once and takes you to it; tap Finish service again to close the visit without it. After the stop is complete it can’t be changed from the phone.
Same as last stop (while a stop has no products) copies an earlier stop today with the same service, amounts included. Check them.
Dictate notes (after Start): type, or use your keyboard’s microphone, tap Fill in the record, check what it found, then tap Use these. The phone picks out key words: pests, areas, findings, and products from your company’s list with an amount said right after the name. It adds them to the record and does not erase what you already entered. Nothing is added until you tap Use these. What it could not place shows under “Still to fill in”.
Steps nobody ticked. If your company’s checklist has steps nobody ticked, Finish service asks Finish anyway? and names the steps you left, so you know which ones. The green button is Tick them first. Finish anyway closes the visit as it is.
Stations not scanned. If stations on file are not scanned when you tap Finish service, a sheet says Close with 11 stations not scanned? (the number is how many are left). The green button is Scan the 11 stations left (with three or fewer, it names them, like Scan #0409, #0412 and #0405). Finish without them asks you for a reason first (below), and the office is told.
When the phone won’t let you finish. Two kinds of things can be missing.
- The state requires it: an amount, a mix rate, the pest, a product’s EPA reg. no., your license, an item of a termite report. Nobody can skip these, for any reason. Fix it on the stop. If only the office can fix it (your license, the address, a product’s EPA reg. no.), tap Ask the office. It opens a message about the stop with what is missing already written. Read it, and send it.
- Your company asked for it: a checklist the office marked required, like a sighting log, or bait stations you did not scan. Tap Finish service, and Close without these? lists everything that is left, steps and stations together, and names each step. The green button takes you to the safe fix (Tick them first, Finish the checklist or the scanner). If steps and stations are both left, Scan the stations is under it. Pick why: Not at this property, Customer refused or not home, Couldn’t get in or Something else (add a few words). Until you pick one, the button under them says Pick a reason first, and once you pick Something else it says Say what happened first until you have typed a few words. Then tap Close without them (Finish without them, when only stations are left). The visit closes, the reason is kept on the record, and the office is told what was skipped, why, and by whom.
If you are not a certified applicator, you do not get the reason box for your company’s own checklist: tap Ask the office instead. You can still close a visit without every bait station scanned, by giving a reason.
On the finished stop, the card at the top lists Pests and Where on their own lines, then Applied, Signed and Time. When you closed it without something, it says Closed without, naming each thing (the stations, and each checklist step you left, by its name) with the reason you gave and any words you typed, and What the record needs says Skipped: and the reason, with your words, under each one. With a long checklist the office sees the first steps by name and then and 3 more steps. If you tap Reopen and finish what was missing, the reason comes off the stop. The office keeps its first note.
If you can’t do the stop, before you start tap Can’t do this stop, under Start service. Pick Not home, no answer, Gate locked, no access, Dog in the yard, Weather, Customer asked to reschedule, Customer refused the treatment or Other (add a few words). If the customer refused, it tells you how to get their signature. Tap Tell the office. Put it back on the route undoes it.
Tell the office:
- Message the office, on a stop or on Messages. The four one-tap replies (like Running about 15 minutes late) send at once and show Undo for 5 seconds. Tap Undo in that time and the office never sees it. Undo is for the last reply you tapped: if you tap a second reply inside the 5 seconds, the first one goes to the office then. After that it goes, and the message says Sent once the office has it, or Waiting for signal until then. Words you type send as before.
- More, then Customer wants a quote. More holds only the quote.
- I’m running low on something, on Me.
- Clock in and Clock out, at the top of Today.
A short message like Clocked in. stays 2 seconds and goes away when you move to another screen. Tap it to put it away sooner. A message with Undo stays for its time.
When a stop is finished, the bar at the bottom is one row: Send report (or Send again once it has gone) beside Navigate, with the next stop’s name under it. Under the card at the top it says whether the report has gone to the customer, and Open the next stop is there too.
Practice: on Me, tap Practice a stop. It takes 2 minutes and nothing is sent.
The demo. Looking around as a tech opens a sample day. The top of Today says Practice route: a sample day, not the office demo’s board. The times it records stay the same when you reload, and nothing in it is sent.
